Route 66 to the Fields of California eBook Elizabeth Strickland

This book is hard to put down. It is historically significant of families' struggles to survive and pull themselves up during the times between the dust bowl and World War II. It is important that we know and remember those who faced difficult lives, who worked very hard in trying situations to squeeze out a living for their families. They did not expect others to take care of them, teaching their children through example how to work hard and long hours to better themselves, even though the odds seemed against them so often. Even though materialistically extremely poor, their family was bound together with respect, love, good moral values, teamwork, and appreciation of what little they had. This is a real life story of that family. More than a touching story - it was their life to survive.

Route 66 to the Fields of California eBook Elizabeth Strickland Reviews

An excellent history about the little known events and hardships faced by some brave Americans as a result of the Depression and severe drought.
This is a great book! I loved reading about the author's journey and especially reflecting on how close those struggles really are to our lives. So well written and enjoyable to read.
This book could easily be used as supplementary curriculum as students study American history and the Dust Bowl timeframe. By the close up peek into this family's journey, students will be able to absorb the history of this particular time in an enhanced manner. Along the way, the family's tenacity and values are teaching their own lessons. I so appreciate this author's endeavors to share the struggles, joys and values of her particular family. In this time of struggle for so many Americans, there is much to be absorbed from this book.
Route 66 to the Fields of California
An excellent true life account of one family's struggle and determination during the great migration to California. This has similarities to the famous Grapes of Wrath, however much more detail and accurate description of that historic time in America's history.
