At 25, Jax Wynter lost his life.
As the youngest member of America's number one rock band, Wynter's Vicious, Jax lived a life with no rules or responsibilities. At least until his older brother, founding member and vocalist, died in a fiery car crash. Jobless, clueless and deemed unfit to handle his own affairs, Jax must sober up, man up and adjust to living as a 'normal person' in the 'real world'.

At 24, Lacey Emerson found hers.
Shuffled between her bi-polar mom and her former hippie grandmother, Lacey had no choice but to become responsible at a young age. Her chaotic childhood, though, gave her the skills and determination to succeed when she inherited her grandmother's bakery. Her life was finally normal, real but very, very boring.

All it took was a five-point face plant to turn both their lives upside down.

From the author of Pole Dance, Human Hieroglyphix I & II and Tap Dance, comes the new novel, "Everybody Falls", Book One of Wynter's Vicious Series. Set in the beautiful town of Auburn, California and filled with a cast of quirky characters, it’s a story about learning to live, learning to love and learning to hold on when your brand of 'normal' comes undone.

Sometimes you have to fall from grace before you can fall in love.

Jax Wynter has finished rehab and now is just taking it day to day to stay sober and find himself again, thanks to help from his Grandmother. The only bright spot in his day is seeing the beautiful woman on the steps of a bakery everyday drinking her coffee, she is a complete mystery but he is intrigued.

Lacey Emerson inherited her grandmothers bakery and has done her best to make her proud. She has seen the mystery jogger and when he unexpectedly lands at her feet, she can't help but be curious. Jax decides to take a chance asking Lacey out, but he knows he will have to divulge his identity. With everything looking up though, Jax is dealt a blow, is he strong enough to deal with it?

This was a different type of story for this author. I liked both characters but I thought it was a bit darker considering the subject matter. A tear jerker, you are rooting for Jax but he can be his own worst enemy. Liked that the story delved into both of their pasts and felt for Lacey, she did not have an easy life.

Everybody Falls Wynter Vicious Book 1 edition by J A Hornbuckle Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I'm really starting to fall...like FALL fall for JA Hornbuckle. Up to this point, all her books have been great reads and this one is no exception.
Wynter's Vicious just lost it's lead singer Denny in a horrible car accident. His little brother/band mate Jax/Jack/Jackson/Hotstuff/Honey/Slugger/The Eternal Teenager can't take it and tries to off himself in the ocean.
He's sent to live with his grandmother at their family owned farm while he completes his probation and mandatory NA/AA meetings.
During this difficult time of re-awakening/finding himself he meets our heroine Lacy, the local bakery shop owner.
He literally falls at her feet...face first. Let me stop her and just say I love how JA makes her couples meet. This isn't the first time a funny/clumsy/painful fall or unusual way has brought two lovebirds together. I hope she keeps it up because it's starting to become something I look forward to in her books.
No one realizes who Jack is, even Lacy (even though she knows the band well).
In less than two days, this couple is hot and heavy and pretty much in love. Lacy finds out who Jack really is and thankfully doesn't stop this powerful love connection because of it.
Unfortunately, other people start figuring out that Jax is in town and they and paparazzi go crazy trying to find him. He takes Lacy to his grandmother's farm house to hide out with him because, thanks to an unknown source, the paparazzi find out they are sleeping together.
This all in itself is a crazy whirlwind. From them trying to hide, to continuing to fall in love, him struggling helping a band mate get out of trouble, forming a new band, all the way to take care of his ailing grandmother, have this couple reeling to figure out their place together.
Its very well written and has a great flow. Super funny parts and extremely sad parts. There is a lot that happens with the side characters and sweet surprises for our heroine and her favorite right hand man at the bakery.
This is a story of true TRUE love, overcoming your addictions and finding yourself. Read this book! You won't be sorry. Then go back and read all her other books. THEN review her stuff and hound her to write more. Write quicker...more and quicker. Then I'll sit back and read. Read, read, read. LOL! Thanks JA, looking forward to more from you!
4.5 Stars. Really liked this one.

If you've been a J. A. Hornbucke fan you'll notice that her writing seems to be evolving. Everybody Falls is her best bk yet.

Ok, just a word about that cover. I know you've noticed it. That cover shot makes the guys pecs look a little overblown...almost in a distorted kind of unattractive way. I was pleased to find out that seeing it close up on the it looks nothing like the shot on Goodreads or . The light on the cover from a distance just casts a weird shadow. Up close, the cover guy's body shot is actually extremely attractive....downright HOT. Now that that's out of the way on to the review.

Story starts off slow and at first I wasn't sure exactly where the story was headed. Jax Wynter, the 25 yr old long haired, tattooed, bad boy rocker from the band Wynter's Vicious, is home from rehab. He's attending AA/NA meetings and trying to get his life back on track after the death of his rocker brother. Jax's hard partying lifestyle and attempt at suicide following his brother's death have taken its toll. He's currently hiding out living on his grandmother's farm in a little California town. The grandmother, Jax's only surviving relative - OMG! You're gonna love this little woman. Straight talking and sassy, Edie Dennison is a pistol. Some of the stuff she comes out with is just priceless. This loveable little granny who at times shows tough love but at others is endearingly sweet is a true heart warmer. Her and Dax's relationship is wonderfully written.

Lacey, 24 yrs old, the heroine, also has had a bit of a rough life. She runs a bakery that her deceased grandmother left to her. Lacey's mother is a piece of trash who falls into and out of Lacey's life from time to time. Except for the mother, there's a fine group of side characters that are there to take Lacey's back. One of the most loveable was Sarge, an aging ex-rocker who helps Lacy in the bakery. I loved Lacy, she's a sweet, common sense kinda girl that needs Jax as much as he needs her.

Not to give anything away, it's just too fun to watch it all unfold without any spoilers. There are several twists and turns with a bit of angst that keeps it moving along at a nice pace. This a very sweet love story. Everybody Falls has Jax/Lacey looking for hope, love and that bit of "magic" that makes it all special. Although it looks as if there may be more bks to Wynter's Vicious, this is a single read with a wonderful HEA. Looking forward to the next one.
